Annually, AFROTC offers the opportunity for high school seniors from around the nation to apply for the High School Scholarship Program (HSSP). The window to apply opens 1 July 2023 and will end on 11 January 2024.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be at least 17 at contracting, but no older than 30 as of 31 December of commissioning year.
- Must be a US citizen, or be able to obtain US citizenship by the end of the projected term of scholarship activation.
- Must have a 1240+ SAT or 26+ ACT and 3.0+ GPA (grades 9-11).
- Must complete Air Force Fitness Assessment (1 minute push-ups/sit-ups and 1.5 mile run) and meet height and weight measurements.
- Must complete a face-to-face interview; interviewer will evaluate the applicant's extracurricular activities and leadership potential
There are three types of HSSPs:
TYPE 1: Pays 100% of college tuition and authorized fees at any public or private institution with an AFROTC detachment. Recipients of this scholarship will also receive a monthly living expense stipend and an annual book stipend.
TYPE 2: Pays up to $18,000 per year ($9,000 per semester, or $6,000 per quarter) in college tuition and authorized fees at any public or private institution with an AFROTC detachment. WVU will cap the annual tuition and fees at $18,000. Recipients of this scholarship will also receive a monthly living expense stipend and an annual book stipend.
TYPE 7: Pays 100% of in-state college tuition and authorized fees at a public institution with an AFROTC detachment. WVU will qualify all out-of-state students receiving this scholarship to the in-state rate. Recipients of this scholarship will also receive a monthly living expense stipend and an annual book stipend.
